Our first
year and a half has been a learning experience for
all and to date I personally am exceptionally proud
of what a very small team of dedicated volunteers have
been able to achieve in such a short space of time.
As with any organization when it first commences,
there is an inordinate amount of paperwork to be completed
and lodged with various authorities (the Dept. of Fair
Trading and Office of Charities of the NSW Department
of Gaming and Racing) before you can undertake any
fundraising.
Our funding has been achieved through public speaking,
private donations and the generosity of community commitment.
During this time the Foundation has raised funds and
produced over 500,000 educational brochures for free
distribution to the public.
During our first six months we were fortunate to work
with Kay Stammers and Tristan Parry of Media One, in
the production of the award winning education video
Fighting Meningococcal Disease and its accompanying
information brochure, which has received overwhelming
acceptance amongst the medical profession
The educational video, poster and brochures were officially
launched in Sydney at the Royal North Shore Hospital
in April 2003.
During this time the foundation, has addressed some
60 organizations, including Rotary, Apex, Inner Wheel,
Clubs NSW Hunter and Newcastle Region and Central Coast
Zone, National Australia Bank, school Principals' Meetings,
Pre-schools, high schools and primary schools, as well
as making representation through Local, State and Federal
Government.
The Foundation has received invaluable support from Mr.
Ken Ticehurst, Federal Member for Dobell, who has spoken
on several occasions in the House of Representatives
on the importance of vaccination and lobbied hard for
its instigation. Mr. Ken Ticehurst has recently accepted
the position of Patron to the Foundation and actively
supports the Foundation in its endeavours to raise public
awareness and education of Meningococcal disease.
Through the generosity and dedication of the Board
of Management and its members of Morisset Country Club
and the passionate commitment of Webstuff.biz, Michelle
Allen we have been able to launch our associated website.
July 2004.
