KEN TICEHURST

Member for Dobell Ken Ticehurst has been appointed Patron
of the Stephen Sanig Foundation , the local foundation dedicated
to educating people about the effects of Meningococcal disease.
A message from Ken Ticehurst MP
Patron of The Stephen Sanig Foundation
Federal Member for Dobell
It is an honour to be Patron of the local foundation dedicated
to reducing the incidence and effects of Meningococcal disease
in Australia.
I am immensely pleased at the journey the foundation has
taken these last 18 months and the achievements they have
made in this short time. The foundation has taken its activities
to a new level with the establishment of The Stephen Sanig
Research Institute, which aims to develop new methods of
prevention and treatment of the disease.
The Sanigs and many other volunteers work tirelessly to
combat Meningococcal disease through education and research
and I sincerely congratulate them for their efforts. They
are an inspiration to us all.
Meningococcal disease is an illness that can strike without
warning. The disease can be extremely difficult to
diagnose, yet in its early stages it can wreak so much damage,
causing death within hours.
With the peak period for meningococcal disease upon us,
it is so important to be aware of the symptoms – as knowledge
and early treatment are the key to surviving Meningococcal
disease.
It is everyone's responsibility to remain vigilant in the
face of such a threat to human life and I urge local communities
to get behind this organisation that is making a real and
positive difference to people's lives.
Sincerely
Mr
Ticehurst
Mr
Ticehurst has ensured that the foundation has been able to
meet with the Prime Minister, The Federal Minister for Health
Mr Tony Abbott and Federal Education Minister Brendan Nelson
.
Mr Ticehurst over this period has come to see that there
is a side to this disease that is not made very public and
that is the effect this disease can have upon 20 percent
of those that survive, including the endurance of endless
skin grafts and corrective orthopaedic surgery,” she said.
